Fertility Clinics: Treatments for Infertile Couples (TCART).
In vitro fertilization involves removing eggs from the ovaries, fertilizing them in the laboratory and then replacing the embryos into the uterus where they implant and matureIVF was originally designed to help women with blocked or absent fallopian tubes. Today, IVF has proven successful for couples with unexplained infertility, ovulation disorders, endometriosis and male factor problems. In Canadian clinics, from 5188 cycles in 2001, approximately 28% of patients undergoing IVF (or ICSI) achieved a pregnancy. This percentage is somewhat better than a normal fertile couple trying to achieve pregnancy in any one cycle, and significantly better for couples with unexplained sub fertility. Furthermore, at TCART, we are striving to provide results significantly better than this Canadian average. Please come in for an appointment to discuss our latest statistics, and how they may apply to you.

The retrieval of immature eggs followed by the maturation of those eggs in the laboratory has become an increasingly popular assisted reproductive technology around the world. In Vitro Maturation involves removal a woman’s eggs from her ovaries prior to ovulation at a time when they are not ‘mature’ - that is, not ready to be fertilized by sperm. Once removed, the eggs are cultured in the laboratory for a 24 hour period to prepare them for fertilization by injection of a single sperm into each egg (intracytoplasmic sperm injection - ICSI). The resulting embryos are used for transfer to the uterus in a fresh state or frozen for future attempts at pregnancy.
