Premature Ovarian Failure (POF)
Sometimes referred to as "premature menopause", is a loss of ovarian function in women under 40 years of age. Periods stop, estrogen is low, and the follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) level is elevated. Some women may experience premature ovarian failure because of adrenal, pituitary, or thyroid deficiencies. Radiation therapy and anti-cancer agents may achieve a cancer cure at the cost of Fertility by causing premature ovarian failure. Women with Turner's Syndrome, a rare genetic disorder, do not develop functional ovaries at all.
Endometriosis
Endometriosis, is believed to be quite common. It is estimated that between 25% and 50% of women with Infertility have endometriosis. This disorder develops whenfragments of the endometrial lining are implanted in other areas of the pelvis. These endometrial, or misplaced tissue implants will still respond to a woman's monthlyhormonal cycle, causing pain and discomfort, slowly increasing in number and size with each menstrual cycle and eventually causing scarring and inflammation.Endometrial implants in the ovaries or fallopian tubes are particularly likely to cause infertility, even if the endometriosis is mild.

First, you take medications to make multiple follicles begin to develop on your ovaries. This step is referred to as ovarian stimulation, or superovulation.Step two involves monitoring follicular growth by ultrasound, to determine egg growth and uterine lining development. When it is determined that the follicles and the uterine lining are appropriately mature, a trigger shot of Human Chorionic Gonadotropin is then administered. 36 hours after the trigger shot, the third step begins with retrieval of the eggs by ultrasound-guided-needle aspiration, an in-office procedure. A sperm specimen is then washed and prepared for insemination. The washed sperm is then placed in a dish with the eggs, and they are placed in an incubator for 18 hours. After 18 hours, the embryos are observed for normal fertilization, under a microscope, where the pronucleus of egg and sperm can be seen.
